06.03 No Dough interview

santos

We thought we would catch up with Santos after his cracking remix of Ricky's track "Sax in holiday" and find out what’s new in his world....so santos...what have you been up to?

I’ve been working a little bit on new tunes and finish mixing the ones I started last year, but mostly I’ve done a lot of mixing for the new releases. I did as many tunes as I could during last year and then I take 2 or 3 month to finish them, mixing and send the labels the final version.. But I have to say this is the first time I’m been very efficient work wise.

Tell us a bit about how you got into music when you were younger?

I always been deeply touched by music. I was always surrounded by music but I didn’t want to become an artist.. I used to play football back in the day, and I thought that was what I wanted to do, but then I realize I was wrong about it, and ended up moving into music

Whats inspiring you right now, what direction are you going in?santostunel

Well… right now I’m not really inspired. There are times when I am and times when I’m not.. I feel like I’m having a transition between what I thought I wanted and what I truly want in the present. I found this very positive and, I am questioning myself and therefore I get moved by this feeling which I think will lead to new ways of making music and things in general. Eventually will take me somewhere special.

Inspiration is a word to justify any kind of creativeness, and I found myself doing things when I am less inspired sometimes, so I don’t know really how inspiration works

Nowadays I’m more aware of the endless possibilities I have music wise, and I want to explore new ways of creating music whit my solo project and also whit collaborations. I want to make albums and songs while I keep doing dance floor orientated music. I am very open when it comes to music so I want to do whatever I feel like doing whit out thinking if this type of music is releasable or not..Or if people will buy it or not, just let the music do the talking, and get carried away by it.

During last year I traveled a lot, and I always carry my iPod whit me, and while I was doing playlists for the long waiting’s at airports I discover music that normally I wouldn’t listen at home.. Therefore I try to do the type of music I like to hear while I’m waiting on airports, or on the subway, riding my bike, before go to bed or just about anywhere. This is one of the directions I want to move towards to.. I want to create functional music in the future, rather than aiming into a techno narrowed audience.

If you only had 2 records left, for the last mix of your life, which 2 records would you pick and why?

Mmmhh.. Not sure if I can ask this one properly.. I mean there are so many records that come to my mind.

The first one will be Matthew Herbert – Going Round (Link).. This is one of those songs that I could listen forever and never get tired of.. Is simply brilliant and it has so much passion and soul in it that just you cannot help feeling just flooded with emotions.. Is so deep but at the same time so huge

Underword - Jumbo (Link) epic, timeless.. I just love it

Where can we see you this summer, and what’s next for you?

No idea if im been honest whit you. I know I’ll be back in Berlin very soon but no big plans yet.

I do know I’m changing booking agency and I expect to be playing around more frequently..

Now I’m working on a new live set, but I also want to get back to dj again. I can’t remember when was the last gig I had as a dj, so you can expect having me playing some records again in the future

I also will start working on my debut album which I intend to take as much time as needed. In the meantime I have upcoming releases on labels like Soweso on a new vinyl compilation. My debut ep on Consistent, a new fresh label from Hamburg, another one on Gluckskind, where I’ve been releasing in the past. This ep will be entitled “Patinama” and I did it along side my friend from Buenos Aires, Dirty Room. Just couldn’t be more happy about what we did together,… I am totally in loved whit what we’ve done, is a very special release for me.. very musical and diverse, whit a lot of soul in it… I think this reflects perfectly my experiences during last year in and it brings a different sound from what I’ve been doing in the past.. That’s the magic you get from doing collaborations.. We did two tracks in two nights and it took us 4 month to mix it and finish it

I also worked whit a close and talented friend, Ekkohaus. We did this cool jazzy dubby EP that will come out on Matt Tolfrey’s label, Leftroom from the U.K. Also before that I will be releasing on the digital label (Left’d) on a v/a compilation.

Where are the best partys in the world?

I’m still looking for that place.

04.22 Darkaudio Podcast

Recently i did a podcast for darkaudio.co.uk. Latetly i've been performing live only but this guys asked me to do a podcast for them long time ago and finally i did it and it is:

LISTEN HERE

here is a little interview i did for them:

Where are you based?
Lately i’m not sure about it. I would say mainly in Berlin but then again I’m not sure. I feel like Marti McFly traveling all over with the DeLorean.

What music style do you play?
At the minute im only performing live so that means that i’m only playing my own stuff.. The style…. mmmh i don’t know, depends on the mood to be honest, but i think is more housy funky deep tech rather than something else i guess

What equipment did you use to create this mix?
I started using my laptop with Traktor and a midi controller but it was hard to control the tracks with out using the vinyls so i ended up using Ableton

What is your favourite producer and/or label?
There’s a lot of great producers out there at the minute, but i have seen so many come and go in a snap shot.. Personally i think Ekkohaus is top notch,
and he will be around for a long time making honest and music and from his heart instead of trying to be fashionable.. i believe he really stand out from the rest.

What are your top 10 tracks currently?
Pepe Bradock – Path of Most Resistance [Atavisme]
Daniel Wang – East Village Hustle [Rush Hour]
Ekkohaus & Santos Resiak – Thanks But No [unreleased yet]
Burnski – Me and You [Dessous]
Session Victim – The Keyboarder [Delusions of Grandeur]
Adeline Supreme – Creme De La Creme [Unknown]
Krause & Nuernberg – Drenched [Kolour Recordings]
Jimmy Edgar – Bthere [Glasstable]
Nufrecuency feat. Ben Onono – Fallen Hero (Motor City Drum Ensamble Remix) ]Rebirth]
Baldo – To Frunk To Duck [Neovinyl]

I have an upcoming gig in one of my favorite places in the world.. Medellin,
Colombia and from the rest of the year i will be touring Europe
